How many platforms should one creator post clips to?
A solo creator should usually post clips to two or three platforms, not all of them, because each additional platform adds real recurring work — platform-specific captions and titles, spec checks, and a comment section that needs tending — and spreading thin across six gets worse results than showing up well on three.
Pick your platforms by where your audience and your goal actually are. If you're building toward YouTube long-form, Shorts is non-negotiable. If your audience is B2B, LinkedIn earns its slot. If you want raw reach and your content is broadly appealing, TikTok. Reels if your audience skews Instagram-native.
The marginal platform (a fourth or fifth) is worth adding only when the first three are running smoothly and you have the capacity to do the extra one properly rather than dumping unmodified uploads.
Cross-posting the identical file everywhere is the failure mode. A TikTok with a TikTok watermark on Reels, or a vertical clip with a caption written for a different app, signals low effort and gets less reach.
Automation changes the math slightly. If a tool handles the per-platform export and captioning, the cost of a fourth platform drops — but the comment-management cost doesn't.
OptimaClip's per-platform exports remove the formatting and captioning work for each destination, so the decision comes down to how many comment sections you can actually keep up with.
