How to Schedule Instagram Reels (In the App, on Desktop, and in Bulk)

To schedule an Instagram Reel, switch to a professional (Creator or Business) account, create the Reel as usual, open Advanced settings (or More options) before sharing, turn on "Schedule this reel," pick a date and time, and tap Schedule. Instagram lets you schedule up to 75 days in advance, directly in the app.

Here's the full process, what to do on desktop, and how to schedule Reels alongside your other platforms.

Schedule a Reel in the Instagram app

1. Make sure you're on a professional account (Settings, then Account type and tools).

2. Tap +, choose Reel, and add your video, caption, cover and tags.

3. On the final screen, open Advanced settings or More options.

4. Turn on Schedule this reel, choose the date and time, tap Done, then tap Schedule.

Scheduled Reels appear under Scheduled content in your profile menu, where you can reschedule or cancel them.

Schedule Reels on desktop

Meta Business Suite and Meta's Planner let you schedule Instagram Reels and Facebook Reels from a computer, which is easier when your clips live on your desktop.

Schedule Reels with your other short-form

If the same clips go to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels, scheduling each app separately triples the work. OptimaClip (Creator plan and up) turns your long videos into clips and schedules them to Instagram and seven other platforms from one queue. See how to batch a month of short-form in one sitting.

Reels vs Stories vs posts: what to schedule

Reels are the discovery format; they're shown to non-followers. Stories keep your existing followers engaged but disappear after 24 hours. Feed posts and carousels work for saves and shares. For clips from long-form content, Reels are the priority.

How often to post Reels

Three to seven Reels a week is a realistic range for growing accounts. Consistency matters more than volume: a steady four a week beats fourteen one week and none the next. Scheduling 75 days ahead means you can load a month in one sitting and forget about it.

How far in advance can I schedule an Instagram Reel?

Up to 75 days in the Instagram app.

Do scheduled Reels get less reach?

There's no evidence of a penalty. What matters is the content, the first seconds, and posting consistently.
