When to recut and repost a clip that flopped

A clip that underperformed is worth recutting when the retention graph shows a steep drop in the first three seconds but a healthy curve after — that pattern means the content held the people who stayed, and the hook is what lost everyone else. Fix the opening and the same clip can perform on a second release.

Check the data before redoing anything. If retention declines steadily all the way through, the content itself didn't land and a new hook won't save it. If there's an early cliff then a flat line, that's a hook problem worth fixing.

The common fixes: start the clip 3 to 5 seconds later so it opens mid-point instead of on a windup, add a text hook stating the payoff, cut a slow intro sentence, or change the first spoken line to the most surprising thing in the clip.

Also consider the cover and the caption — a weak first-frame in the profile grid or a vague caption can suppress a clip that's otherwise fine.

Repost as a fresh upload after a few weeks, ideally to a different platform first, so it's not competing with the original in the same feed.

Because OptimaClip keeps the source project, trimming the head, swapping the text hook, and re-exporting is a two-minute change rather than a rebuild — which makes it worth doing rather than writing the clip off.
