TikTok SEO: how to get your clips to show up in TikTok search
To rank in TikTok search, use the exact words people search for in your spoken audio, on-screen text, caption and hashtags, and make sure the video delivers a clear answer. TikTok reads all of these signals to understand what a video is about and who to show it to.
Find the phrases. Type a topic into the TikTok search bar and note the autocomplete suggestions, then browse the top results to see how others phrase their titles. Those suggestions reflect what people actually search for. Pick one main phrase per clip.
Say it out loud. TikTok transcribes speech, so the words you say count. Include the main phrase in the first sentence, and repeat it naturally once or twice. "Here's how to remove a wine stain from a carpet" is better than "Okay, so this happened."
Put it on screen. Add the phrase to the on-screen text or captions in the first few seconds. This helps both viewers and the system, and reinforces the topic if your audio is noisy.
Write a helpful caption. Use a short, specific caption that includes the phrase and a natural follow-up question or detail. Add a few relevant hashtags that describe the topic and audience, not a long list of unrelated ones.
Deliver on the promise. Search rewards videos that people finish and engage with. If the title promises three tips, give three clear tips, and keep the pacing tight. Long intros and vague answers reduce watch time.
Use series and playlists. Grouping related clips into a playlist or using consistent titles helps viewers binge, and repeated engagement tells TikTok the topic works for your account.
Refresh what works. Check your analytics for the searches and traffic sources that bring views, and make more clips on those topics. Update older clips with new hooks when the topic is still relevant.
OptimaClip's editable captions and transcripts make it easy to make sure the key phrase appears in the spoken words and on-screen text of every clip before you post.
