Trending audio vs original audio on clips in 2026
In 2026, trending audio is worth using when your clip has little or no dialogue — B-roll montages, transformations, visual demos — because on TikTok and Reels a trending sound is still a discovery signal and those formats have room for it. For talking-head and interview clips, the spoken audio is the content and a trending track underneath just competes with it.
The workaround some creators use — adding a trending sound at near-zero volume purely to attach the clip to that sound's page — has diminishing returns. Platforms have gotten better at detecting it and it doesn't reliably help anymore.
Original audio has its own upside. A clip that pops can send viewers to your original sound page, and other creators using your audio is a genuine reach multiplier that a borrowed trending sound can't give you.
YouTube Shorts is the clearest case: it's search-and-topic driven more than sound-driven, so trending audio matters least there. Post the clip with its own audio and focus on the title.
If you do use a trending sound on a dialogue clip, duck it hard — the voice should be fully clear and the music should sit 15 to 20 dB under it, used only in the gaps.
OptimaClip preserves your clean spoken audio track through the export, so adding a platform-native trending sound on top (at the right level) is done in the app after upload without degrading the dialogue.
